The paediatrician is a specialist who is an expert in the medical care of infants, children and adolescents. The word paediatrics derives from the Greek, meaning “healer of children”.
Paediatricians look after children with day to day medical ailments, as well as medical, developmental, social and behavioural issues. They provide early neonatal care as well as the administration of vaccines as per National Health guidelines.
